Polish British Integration Centre (PBIC)
The Polish British Integration Centre (PBIC) teaches students about the local community both in a cultural and geographical sense, and then putting them in touch with the local employers (Access Europe HR, Parripak). PBIC uses the developed Transqual Service in Bedfordshire and Luton to transfer Polish qualifications into the UK equivalents.
PBIC specialises in:
• Develop basic ESOL skills
• Teach essential facts about living and working
• Encourage employability and further learning
When Migrant Workers arrive in GB they recognise the great opportunity of earning yet they often disregard the fact that even this work could be a form of developing their careers. During our courses bi-lingual teachers encourage learners to look at what they have to offer to employer but also at their own development. The first response of the learners is often their lack of confidence, they say that progression is impossible without the appropriate language skills. By showing them various opportunities of learning (during the employment session or the session on education or in signposting for job progression), tutors not only motivate learners to develop their ESOL skills more eagerly but also build learners confidence that advancing in careers is also an option for them. PBIC allows learners to ask questions and discuss differences between Polish and British systems covering:
1. General Knowledge of Great Britain
2. Local Community
3. Education
4. Police and traffic regulations
5. NHS
6. Housing
7. Employment
8. Home Office
9. Inland Revenue
10.Signposting
